The search for driftwood!

Living in land locked Derby we periodically take trips to the coast. Our favourite is obviously Bude and the surrounds where our daughter and family live.

As it’s a good 5 hour trip it can’t realistically be a weekend break sadly.

But we get there as often as possible.

We don’t know if or where driftwood can be found at any given time it is always a gamble. But as we both adore the seaside and we get to have a few days away from the hustle and bustle of home it is always worth it if only for a break.

This week we will be having a few days in Colwyn Bay which is near Conway where we were successful last year.

Driftwood isn’t always lying there conveniently on the sand in the shape or type we need. We often have to search in and under the rocks, covering long stretches of beach , even then it can look right but be rotten or so water logged as to make it not worth the bother of collecting it. Often we see beautiful pieces that are just too big to carry.

Now and again the search will reveal one or two choice pieces that you can tell at a glance what they are destined to become.
